Women's Empowerment

Trócaire's Women's Empowerment programme strives to ensure that the women and girls we work with around the world have a voice in decisions that affect their lives, within their homes, communities, and beyond, and that they are free from violence.

How we support women's empowerment

Globally, women and girls face significant inequality and remain under-represented in all spheres of life. One third of women worldwide have faced physical violence in their lifetime.

Throughout the countries in which Trócaire works, we:

  • Advocate for laws that protect women and respect their rights and dignity,
  • Offer support to those exposed to abuse and work with men and women to prevent gender-based violence (GBV),
  • Help women to achieve their basic needs and to earn a living;
  • And work to build women’s leadership and support their equal participation in decision-making at all levels.
