Get Moving for Trócaire

Lent we want you to Get Moving for Trócaire and help us raise vital funds. Whether you are an individual or want to do this with your family, or as part of a sports club, see below how you can get involved.


Get Moving for Individuals and families

Get moving this Lent by covering the distance of a marathon (26 miles or 42 kilometres). This can be done safely and within boundaries by doing it in small chunks.

It doesn’t matter how you do it – walk, run, cycle or even or hop if you’d like. Do as much or as little in one go. Do it alone or with your family or safely with friends – just go for it and keep tracking your progress until you reach that goal.

To help get motivated, you can ask friends and family to sponsor you with the funds going towards Trócaire’s Lenten Appeal. You can set up a JustGiving page justgiving.com or a Facebook fundraiser or people can donate directly at trocaire.org/donate.

Get Moving as part of a group

Whether you’re a sports club, community group or a group of like-minded friends who want to come together to achieve something big.

A few tips

  1. Choose a distance to cover and set a time limit by when you want to complete your challenge (again, please do this safely and within guidelines)
  2. How about setting the challenge of getting from Ireland to South Sudan (the focus country of our 2021 Lenten Appeal). It’s approximately 5,500 miles away (it sounds a lot but could be very achievable as a large group). Or you can come up with whatever distance means something to you.
  3. Get as many people involved as possible! The more people involved, the more achievable it will be. And if you’re a club, don’t just limit it to club members. Get your friends and family involved too!
  4. Set up an online fundraising page. You can do this easily at justgiving.com or sponsor forms are also available to download here trocaire.org/ways-to-help/fundraise/community-fundraising/resources
  5. Keep track of your progress. Ask one of your group to keep track of the progress of all the members and keep people updated and motivated.
  6. Make it fun. Share photos, videos and post messages to support each other on your social channels and don’t forget to tag Trócaire.
  7. Make it your own. The challenge can be done in different ways so try and think of your own ideas on how you can get moving and do it your way!
