Combined paper summary - This paper is a synthesis of lessons learnt from resilience programming in Malawi and Zimbabwe.  In 2019, the impacts of Cyclone Idai and drought in the previous years had devastating impacts  on the lives and livelihoods of  vulnerable communities.  The paper further provides recommendations for current and future resilience building programmes in Trócaire and its partner organisations.
 
Malawi paper Summary – Following  floods and storms, culminating into Cyclone Idai in March, 2019, communities were negatively impacted.  However, communities supported with resilience building initiatives thrived better.  This paper aims to provide insight relating to the positive impacts of Trócaire’s ongoing resilience building work in Chikwawa District, Southern Malawi.

Zimbabwe Paper summary - This learning paper aims to provide insight relating to the impact of ongoing climatic shocks and the positive impact of resilience building initiatives in Matabeleland South and Masvingo Provinces in Zimbabwe.  The 2018 drought and Cyclone Idai in 2019 caused devastating impacts on lives and livelihoods of vulnerable communities.  However, resilience building initiatives implemented in these communities minimised the impacts.
