The next few days are absolutely crucial. Our new Government may delay or even shelve the Occupied Territories Bill, despite pre-election promises to pass it.
This is unacceptable. Despite a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, the humanitarian crisis is still dire. Most families remain displaced, children are freezing in tents, and hunger is widespread amid the rubble of relentless Israeli offensives. Ireland must act now.
We have both a moral and legal duty to uphold international law, protect human rights and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.
As a constituent, your voice can ensure that TDs prioritise justice for Palestine in the first 100 days of this new government.
Two critical demands:
Take action today. Demand real leadership from your TDs. Let them know you expect immediate progress on these issues. No delays, no half measures!
Simply select your constituency, fill in your details and press send. A pre-written email below will be sent to your TDs.
I am a constituent of yours.
I have been following the coverage of the Government formation in the news and I am concerned at the negative coverage which the Occupied Territories Bill is receiving from some political representatives.
I voted in-part based on support from political parties and politicians for the Occupied Territories Bill and I am concerned and disappointed to see that the Government appear to be rolling back on the steadfast commitments made to the Bill during the election campaign.
As Simon Harris said: it is never the wrong time to do the right thing. I urge you and your party colleagues to ensure a strong Occupied Territories Bill that prohibits trade in goods and services is passed in the first 100 days of Government. The people of Ireland have been calling for this measure for too long already, it is time to pass the Bill. Progressing legislation is not a strong enough commitment in the context of the dire situation in both Gaza and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Don’t water it down: pass the Occupied Territories Bill in the first 100 days of Government.
Additionally, Ireland must carry out a full divestment by the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) from all companies involved in the illegal Israeli settlements, as listed in the UN Database. While ISIF has announced its decision to divest from Israeli companies it is still complicit through its investments in other international companies on the UN Database. We cannot condemn the existence of illegal settlements with one hand, while contributing to them economically with the other. It is time for the ISIF to divest from illegal Israeli settlements. Our public funds should not contribute to the ongoing human rights violations against the Palestinian people.
I look forward to your response outlining how you are taking action on these issues and to seeing you take action in the Dáil Chamber.
