Buy a Gift of ChangeA genocide may be unfolding before our eyes in Gaza.
The International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to prevent genocide in Gaza. This preliminary decision is a really significant step, and we urgently need Ireland now to publicly support this important case.
In the past few months over 25,000 thousand Palestinians, many of them children, have been killed by Israel. 1 in 4 people in Gaza are now at risk of starvation, and almost the entire population have been forced from their homes.
As horrific as the October 7th attacks by Hamas and Islamic Jihad were, they cannot justify Israel’s ongoing slaughter in Gaza.
Ireland has a moral and legal duty to do everything it can to prevent genocide. We cannot remain on the fence in the face of such horror in Gaza.
The government has said that it will ‘strongly consider’ supporting South Africa’s case at the International Court of Justice following the Court making its preliminary decision. Given the court has now issued its preliminary decision, there is now no excuse for Ireland to hold back its full support for the case.
That’s why we urgently need you to help pressure our elected representatives. Together we can push Ireland to show leadership on this issue.
Please take action now.

I am writing to you to express my outrage at the situation in the Gaza Strip and to call on you to do everything in your power to ensure the Irish Government take steps to bring an end to the death, destruction and suffering that Palestinians are having to endure every day.
Over the last number of months Israel has undertaken an unrelenting military campaign on the Gaza Strip that has resulted in more than 25,000 thousand deaths and the displacement of 1.9m people. The Israeli military is killing an average of 250 Palestinians per day in Gaza, a higher daily death rate than any other twenty-first-century armed conflict. 1 in 4 people in Gaza are facing immediate risk of starvation. These acts are war crimes.
Furthermore, the desperate situation endured by the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip today has led many independent observers and UN experts to warn that there is a risk of genocide unfolding in Gaza.
It is clear from the news and debates in Dáil Éireann that many feel that the Government can and should be doing more. Ireland’s position in recent months has been welcome, and it has led the way amongst European states in calling for a ceasefire as well as for accountability. However, these demands have not changed the situation on the ground and it is now incumbent on the Irish Government to recognise the seriousness of the situation by taking appropriate steps to prevent genocide against the Palestinian people.
The International Court of Justice has decided that Israel must “take all measures within its power” to prevent all acts within the scope of the Genocide Convention. This is an important development and provides an opportunity for the Irish Government to take action.
How many more innocent lives need to be lost before this brutal war ends. Ireland needs to do more. As your constituent I am asking you to write to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and urge the Government to take the following steps;
Please, Deputy, make a stand on this issue at every opportunity and please update me on the responses you receive from the Minister.
Yours sincerely,
