The Season of Creation has a special significance for the Catholic Church, particularly since Pope Francis established 1 September as an annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. The Season of Creation is marked throughout the Christian world from 1 September to 4 October (Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi) and celebrates the joy of creation as well as encouraging awareness-raising initiatives to protect the natural environment.
This year’s theme is “To Hope and Act with Creation”. We hope that the following resources will help you and your parish community to celebrate the Season of Creation 2024. These resources are compiled by the Laudato Si’ Working Group of the Irish Bishop’s Conference & Trócaire.

2023 is the year in which Trócaire marks the fiftieth anniversary of our foundation by the Irish Catholic Bishops. Some of you will remember the foundation of Trócaire and the inspiring actions by the bishops of the time in calling on the people of the island of Ireland to respond to the needs of those living in the developing world. Others will have grown up with the ‘Trócaire Box’ in school and at home.
It is fair to say that, over the past fifty years, Trócaire has been close to the hearts of the Irish faithful, especially during the season of Lent. The generosity of individuals, parishes and dioceses has enabled Trócaire to respond to humanitarian crises, and to empower some of the most vulnerable people of the world to build a better future.
We invite you to mark our 50th anniversary in your parish or community. Below you will find some resources with ideas on how to do this.
In particular, we invite you to pray our 50th Anniversary prayer in your Parish throughout the year. Uniting in prayer, we stand in solidarity with our supporters, partners and all in need around the world.
