Ireland makes historic move to divest from fossil fuels

Dail says yes to divest from fossil fuels

First country in the world to commit to withdrawing public money invested in fossil fuels

The Fossil Fuel Divestment Bill compels the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) to sell off its investments in the global fossil fuel industry, which as of June 2017, stood at €318 million, across 150 companies worldwide.

“It will stop public money being invested against the public interest, and it sends a clear signal nationally and globally that action on the climate crisis needs to be accelerated urgently, starting with the phase out of fossil fuels” says Eamonn Meehan, Trócaire Executive Director.

Settlement Goods bill makes history

Ireland on the road to making history by backing human rights in Palestine

Seanad Éireann has voted in favour of the Occupied Territories (Settlement Goods) Bill. This Bill, introduced by Independent Senator Frances Black, would prohibit trade between Ireland and the illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian land.

This Bill still needs to pass through the Dáil, but is a powerful declaration in support of human rights in Palestine. By differentiating between Israel and the illegal settlements constructed on Palestinian land, this legislation puts human rights at the heart of Irish trade and clearly show Ireland’s opposition to ongoing land grabs by Israel in the West Bank.

Mary Robinson meets Enestina from Malawi

Former President visits Trócaire project in Malawi.

It's not every day you meet the former president of Ireland. Nor is it every day you meet a girl who was on the front of the Trócaire box.

Mary Robinson recently visited the Malawian village of Kanyera to meet with local families and also met with Enestina Muyeye, who was formerly on the Trócaire box in 2014.
