Buy a Gift of ChangeOften called the world's longest running conflict, it is also one that is one of the most forgotten. The media rarely covers the Kachin conflict in the north of Myanmar, which has experienced decades of fighting, and over 100,000 people have lived in displacement camps for almost a decade. Now, this region is facing a surge in Covid cases.
This short new video highlights how Trócaire and our partners are responding to the challenge of Covid in Kachin. Our local partner organisation, Htoi Gender and Development foundation, is a women’s rights organisation that is reaching extremely remote communities. They are providing emergency hygiene supplies such as soap, hand sanitiser and dignity kits for women.
They are also training volunteers and encouraging women to participate in the response to Covid. Awareness is being raised through information materials and awareness sessions, building knowledge amongst communities about how the virus spreads, as well as about gender-based violence.
The project is helping communities to stay well informed, strong, resilient and safe.
