Trócaire wins governance award

We won ‘Best Annual Report’ in the large NGO category at the annual award ceremony organised by the Carmichael Centre. The awards are judged by a team of independent financial experts, who review financial statements and governance structures.

When people give to a charity, they must be confident that they can trust how their money will be used. We are delighted and proud to be seen as ‘best in class’ when it comes to governance and transparency.

The people who fill their Trócaire boxes and donate to our appeals are the people who keep our programmes running. They are not simply supporters or donors: they are Trócaire. Without them, Trócaire does not exist.

We have for many years supported efforts to strengthen governance in the charity sector. We are committed to many important codes, standards and bodies, including:

  • Charities Regulatory Authority
  • Charity Commission for Northern Ireland
  • CGAI Irish Development NGOs Code of Corporate Governance
  • Irish Charities Tax Reform Group standard for fundraising and complaints procedure
  • SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) for accounting and reporting
  • Good Fundraising Guide

A list of the various codes we adhere to can be found on our Accountability page.

Trócaire has received ‘Triple Lock’ standard from the Charities Institute of Ireland. This standard is given to charities who operate best practice in transparent reporting, ethical fundraising and strong governance.

These are not just concepts for Trócaire: they are central to everything we do. When you donate to Trócaire, we want you to know that.
