The governance initiative relates to our ongoing strengthening of safeguarding in the organisation. Strong safeguarding policies and procedures protect everyone involved in our programmes – beneficiaries, local communities, partners and staff – from abuse and harm.
Trócaire is constantly working to ensure its safeguarding processes are strong. Over the last year we have taken a number of steps to further strengthen our safeguarding work. This included an independent external evaluation that found “a clear and robust framework of policies and procedures was found to be in place to contribute to a safe environment and culture in Trócaire”. The evaluation also reported high levels of compliance with international best practice.
The Annual Report is a key governance and transparency tool for Trócaire. As well as detailing our impact and financial results, it also outlines our governance processes and approach to risk management.
Trócaire was named as the winner of the Best Annual Report and Best Governance Initiative awards at the 2019 Good Governance Awards. The governance initiative related to the strengthening of our risk management processes.
“Strong governance and transparency are vital to our sector,” said Trócaire CEO Caoimhe de Barra. “Supporters and donors need to know how their funds are being spent, what sort of impact they are having and what governance structures are in place to ensure funds are used to their best effect.
“We are committed to best practice governance and transparency and will continue to look for ways to strengthen this.”
The 2020 Carmichael Good Governance Awards take place on November 20th.
