The World Etc. – Podcast Episode 3

Ahead of the fifth anniversary of the start of the 2014 Gaza War on July 8th, our third podcast episode focuses on Deirdre O’Kane’s recent trip to Israel and Palestine with Trócaire. 

Deirdre visited the West Bank and Gaza, meeting with Palestinian and Israeli organisations providing medical support and working for human rights and an end to the occupation.

Comic Relief’s fundraising efforts at the 3Arena on St Patrick’s Day raised more than €180,000 to support a much-needed health project in Gaza.

Chatting over a coffee, Deirdre speaks to Colm about her experience visiting a clinic that will treat 5,000 children for malnutrition, worms and intestinal diseases caused by a lack of access to clean water due to the Israeli blockade.

She also touches on her trip to Aida Refugee Camp, her shock upon seeing the West Bank separation barrier and her hopes for peace and equal rights in Palestine and Israel.
