Sr. Bridget honoured with Presidential award

Sr. Bridget was given the honour by President Michael D. Higgins in recognition of her 25 years spent in service of the poor and vulnerable in the Middle East. She is currently based in Jerusalem, overseeing the work of Caritas Jerusalem to provide support to people in the West Bank and Gaza.

Trocaire has partnered with Sr Bridget and Caritas Jerusalem over the last number of years, most recently supporting a primary health care intervention for young children in the Gaza Strip.

Last August, Sr. Bridget was named as the inaugural winner of the Trócaire Romero Award in recognition of her outstanding work for justice.

Sr. Bridget was one of ten people to receive the award from President Higgins. Speaking about the award she said: “Receiving the Irish Presidential Distinguished Service Award was a huge honour. I felt privileged to meet our President Michael D. Higgins who has done so much to raise awareness of the contribution of the Irish overseas, and also to meet the other recipients of this distinguished award.”

The award highlights the plight of the Palestinian people who long for self-determination and freedom but still live under occupation and the contribution of the people of Ireland to the people of Palestine.

We are proud to continue supporting her work caring for the most vulnerable and marginalised over the coming years.
