Protecting the right to freedom of movement for Gaza’s residents

Tania Hary, Director of Israeli Human Rights organisation Gisha talks about Gaza’s energy crisis

Israeli Human Rights organisation Gisha

Gisha is the legal centre for freedom of movement and a longstanding Trócaire partner. The organisation works to protect the right to freedom of movement, especially for Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip, through individual legal assistance, principled legal advocacy and public advocacy.

Tania and Mohammed from Gisha be will be touring the country this week, giving public talks in Belfast, Derry, and Cork to draw attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

10 year anniversary of closure of Gaza

Following a year of dramatic political shifts around the globe, Palestinians and Israelis this year mark 50 years of occupation of the Palestinian territory and 10 years of closure in Gaza.

These anniversaries, as well as talk about a renewed or regional peace process, are forcing hard questions about whether Gaza can or will be incorporated and what the future holds for its two million-strong and particularly young population.

Meanwhile, the reality on the ground is grim, with water and energy sources at crisis levels and worsening movement restrictions crippling economic activity and hope.
