Pat McDonagh, best known as the founder and owner of Supermac’s Restaurants, has been a loyal supporter of Trócaire for over 30 years, undertaking many fundraising initiatives in support of our work.
Along with his wife, Una, Pat visited Zimbabwe to see first-hand the need facing communities. That trip reinforced his belief in what Trócaire does.
“We trust Trócaire and the approach they take,” he says. “The dedication of the Trócaire team to the cause is something myself and Úna have had experience of having visited Zimbabwe with them a couple of years ago. The money raised by Trócaire goes directly to those who need it most.
“We know we are making a difference to the lives of ordinary people living in poverty and fear in Africa and beyond – mothers, fathers, children, grandparents. While things in Ireland have changed in recent years, we still live in a relatively safe country where basic human rights are respected and fulfilled. Others are not so fortunate.”

Pat encourages all his branches around the country to support fundraising efforts. In over 100 outlets around the country, Supermac’s customers can contribute to Trócaire’s work by leaving their change in Trócaire boxes.
Supermac’s also host an annual Christmas Fundraising Event for Trócaire, which will take place tonight in the Loughrea Hotel and Spa. Last year’s event raised over €50,000 to support water projects in Zimbabwe.
“We are delighted to be supporting the Trócaire campaign again in 2017,” says Pat. “We have teamed up with Trócaire as our partners to try and alleviate poverty where our assistance is most needed. Our Trócaire Fundraising Evening in the Lough Rea Hotel and Spa is a way of acknowledging that and it will also help to continue with their valuable work.”
