Seven years ago this month, the decades-old Kachin conflict in Northern Myanmar violently escalated. The escalation in fighting resulted in over 100,000 people fleeing their homes. They have been living in displacement camps ever since.
Efforts towards resolving this, one of the longest running conflicts in the world, have still not resulted in peace. People are still longing to return to their homes.
To highlight the challenges that people face living in these camps, Trócaire has produced three new short videos.
The videos focus on the issues facing women and young people, and how displaced people struggle to make ends meet.
Trócaire produced these videos together with our partner organisation RANIR, involving local Kachin film-makers.
Trócaire and its partners respond to the Kachin crisis, providing humanitarian support to over 40,000 people living in these camps. Through our local partner organisations we provide cash, food, shelter, and water and sanitation.
We respond to gender-based violence and work towards strengthening people’s resilience, so that people have opportunities to provide for themselves.
Trócaire is also working to involve women and youth in peace-building, making their voices and their hopes for peace heard.
