Trócaire partners with Sanctuary Runners on 5km fun run to mark World Refugee Day

Trócaire is appealing to young and old to join a special 5k fun run being organised by the Sanctuary Runners to mark World Refugee day.

Sanctuary Runners – an Irish solidarity through sport movement set up in 2018 – is expecting hundreds to take part in the run next Sunday, June 19th including newly arrived  Ukrainian refugees and residents of direct provision centres.

The run will take place in the Sport Ireland Campus in Blanchardstown at 11am and Trócaire is one of the partners for the event.

Caoimhe de Barra, Trócaire CEO, said; “Trócaire is proud to partner with the Sanctuary Runners for World Refugee Day and to stand in solidarity with the millions of people around the world who are displaced due to conflict and climate change. According to the UN there are currently more than 100 million people around the world who have been forced to feel their homes. The run will be a great event and you can run or walk as suits you best, with friends or family members.”

Registration for the event is free but those signing up are invited to make a donation to Trócaire.

When: 11am, Sunday 19th June 

Where: The inaugural Sanctuary Run will be held at the Sport Ireland Campus in Abbotstown on June 19, on the eve of World Refugee Day.
