Documentary screenings, poetry competition celebrations and launch of Irish Global Solidarity in 100 Objects
Trócaire is delighted to take part in this year’s Culture Night – Friday 18th September.
We are taking part in 3 events. Due to Covid restrictions, these events will be happening online, and we would love you to attend.
We’ll be celebrating the courage and determination of women human rights defenders with two short documentary screenings:
Sumud: Everyday Resistance highlights the stories of Palestinian women resisting Israel’s military occupation of the West Bank.
Women in their Place examines how indigenous women are defending their land against big business in Honduras.
The event will include a short talk by Emmet Sheerin, the filmmaker behind these films.

Join us for a streamed video event with the winners and runners-up of this year’s Trócaire Poetry Ireland Poetry Competition performing their poems.
The annual poetry competition uses the arts to raise awareness about current global citizenship, justice, ecological and equality issues.
As a physical awards ceremony isn’t possible due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are celebrating the winners of the competition with a streamed video event.
The 100 Objects exhibition, organised by developmenteducation.ie, which took place in Dublin city centre in March this year, was a unique pop up event, providing a snapshot of Irish engagement with global cultural, political and social issues over the past 50 years in 100 objects.
Trócaire contributed a number of items to this exhibition including the Trócaire box and our Massive Clearance installation which was inspired by the realities in Guatemala, where poor indigenous communities have lost their homes and livelihoods to make way for large-scale palm oil and sugar cane production, as well as mining activities by multinational corporations.
Caoimhe de Barra our CEO, will be co-launching the event with Minister of state for Overseas Development & Diaspora Colm Brophy TD.
