Thank you for asking the Irish and UK Governments to push for peace in Syria.
The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney T.D said, “Solidarity alone does not address the root causes of the Syrian crisis. A peaceful resolution to the Syria conflict is now imperative, and Ireland fully supports UN-led political negotiations.”
Ireland pledged a further €25 million to the humanitarian response in Syria.
We asked for Ireland to do more to protect civilians in Syria. Our calls did not go unheard.
This conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 500,000 people, with a further 5.5 million fleeing the country and 6.1 million people internally displaced within Syria. 7 years of war is too long.
