Once upon a time, there was a meeting with Rabbit and all of the other animals in the jungle. The animals wanted to dig a new well in the jungle because water was very scarce.
All the animals started working together as they sang, “Let’s dig here, there’s water! Let’s dig here, there’s water! Let’s dig here, there’s water!” but Rabbit decided not to help dig and chose to go looking for honey in the forest instead.
After hours of digging, the animals found cool drinking water deep underneath the ground. Everyone was very happy.
They hired a guard to protect the well and to make sure that only the animals who had helped with the digging got to use the precious resource of water.
When the rabbit came to the well to drink some of the water, the guard told him he wasn’t allowed to drink it because he hadn’t helped to dig the well.
Rabbit distracted the guard with some honey and while the guard was eating, Rabbit tied him to a tree! Then Rabbit drank some water from the well, decided to have a bath in it, made the water dirty and ran away!
When the other animals came to drink water, they found the guard all tied up. He told the animals what Rabbit had done.
All of the other animals were furious! Tortoise spoke and volunteered to look after the well the following night. Tortoise told his friends to put glue on his back. He was going to play a trick on Rabbit.
When Rabbit came back, he saw Tortoise by the well but thought his shell was just a large stone.
He jumped on Tortoise’s back to reach the well and got stuck!
The other animals caught Rabbit and reminded him that sometimes it is important for everyone to work together for the good of the community.
