Video for Early Years and Junior Primary
This is Fatu.
She is five years old.
Here is Fatu with her sister Kumba, who is seven years old.
Fatu lives in a city called Freetown, which is the capital city of Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone is a country in West Africa.
Fatu’s mother Finda is a hairdresser and her father Sahr is a builder.
Fatu and Kumba have one brother named Saha, who is 13 years old.
They have an older sister Sia Fanta, who is 15 years old.
Fatu’s sister Kumba is very special to Fatu.
Who are some people who are special to you?
Fatu and Kumba love to play the game Akra.
This is a popular game in Sierra Leone.
It is played in pairs.
When the leader moves a foot forward, the other player must move the same foot forward.
Both players clap their hands during the game.
Fatu and Kumba love dancing, too.
Fatu and Kumba have made a ball out of old plastic bags and are playing a throwing game.
Have you ever made a toy? Tell us about it.
After lots of exercise on a hot day, Fatu is thirsty and hungry.
She is enjoying a healthy snack of some cold water and a banana.
Bananas are grown in Sierra Leone.
What are some foods that are grown in Ireland?
Fatu and Kumba have new school bags.
Fatu has a lovely new set of coloured pencils.
She can’t wait to use them.
At the end of a long day, Fatu likes to have a bit of quiet time in the woods.
It’s very peaceful.
Is there a quiet place you like to go to? How do you feel when you are there?
Fatu is waving goodbye to her friends in Ireland!
We hope you enjoyed meeting her.
