Trócaire Development Review 2001

The 2001 Trócaire Development Review examines two cross-cutting themes: the need for an effective rights based approach to development, and for locally owned poverty reduction strategies. In particular, the need for the application of development co-operation policies in practice, and the importance of human rights across a variety of areas including bonded labour, the Security Council, and the UN Convention of Refugees, are explored in more depth. Ireland’s role in the promotion of international law following the September 11 attacks on the US and the subsequent Afghanistan war operations are also discussed. Finally, several recently-published key texts on development are reviewed.
