Trócaire Development Review 1990

The 1990 Trócaire Development Review explores a wide range of issues facing those concerned with development including World Bank policies and the role of donors in the aid process.
 
Specific topics under discussion include analysis of the ECO ’92 environment conference, the history and impact of the Southern African Development Coordination Conference, the role of food imports in developing countries, the benefits that accrue for donors through their aid policy, the pharmaceutical industry, and a collaborative critique of World Bank development policies by the NGO Working Group on the World Bank.  
 
In addition, several recently-published key texts on development-related topics are reviewed including the World Development Report 1990 by the World Bank, and reports from the United Nations Development Programme, OECD and the Advisory Council on Development Co-operation.
 
The Review includes book reviews for: Economic Development in the Third World by M. P. Todaro, An Introduction to Development Economics by S. Ghatak, Allen and Unwin, Economics of Development by M. Gillis, D. H. Perkins, M. Roemer and D, R. Snodgrass, Norton, and Blueprint for a Green Economy by David Pearse, Anil Markandya and Edward B. Barbier.

The Review draws together policy analysis and research finding with a particular relevance to Ireland's evolving role in international development. Articles are on economic, social and political themes relating to poverty and injustice in the developing world.
