Trócaire Development Review 1987

The 1987 Trócaire Development Review explores three key issues in development – debt, education, and the role of the media in representing development concerns.

In particular, topics under discussion include Latin America’s current debt crisis, the differing economic performances of Ecuador and Peru in the context of IMF intervention, the effects of academic migration by developing country citizens to the developed world, the use of a food-related development education curriculum in Irish schools, the role of the Lome Convention, and aspects of how the Irish media have represented the recent African famine.

In addition, several recently-published key texts on development-related topics are reviewed including reports from by the Department of Foreign Affairs Ireland, the OECD, and the World Bank.

The Review includes book reviews for: Foreign Aid Reconsidered by Roger C. Riddell, Does Aid Work? Report to an Intergovernmental Task Force by Robert Cassen and Associates, South Korea: Violations of Human Rights by Amnesty International, and Human Rights in Korea by Asia Watch Committee
