Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, Fossil Fuels and Climate Change

Trócaire believes the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) should be divested from fossil fuels because of the disproportionate contribution of fossil fuels to climate change which is driving poverty and hunger around the world.

Many investment analysts are also highlighting that fossil fuels are becoming an increasingly risky investment.

This Trócaire-commissioned study by Corporate Knights reviews the financial performance of the ISIF and concludes, among other findings, that had the ISIF sold off its fossil fuel stocks at the beginning of 2015 in favour of investing in clean energy companies, the fund would have accumulated an estimated €22 million more at the end of that year, while lowering the portfolio’s carbon footprint by 48%.
