Download HereTrócaire BIG DAY OF HOPE is a celebration of words, thoughts and the imagination. Hope is optimistic and encouraging, it’s brave and protective. It can be peace in chaos, seeing joy in others, their dreams and hopes for the future. But, around the world, many people are starting to lose hope.
On our BIG DAY OF HOPE, our aim is to spread hope. Taking influence from the Guatemalan worry dolls, we want to turn worries into hopeful thoughts.
In Mayan legend, children tell their worries to their worry doll and put it under their pillow at night. By morning, their worry doll has given them the wisdom to conquer their worries giving them hopeful thoughts for the day.
So how will your fundraising make a difference?
The money raised by selling worry doll keyrings will be used to provide much needed support and training to the most at-risk communities who are struggling to cope with the devastating effects of climate change.
Guatemala is among the top ten most vulnerable countries in the world when it comes to climate disasters and emergencies. By taking part, your students and school will be making a lasting and positive impact on those who have contributed the least to the climate crisis but who are bearing the brunt of its most devastating effects.
Your support can help communities adapt and become hopeful for a brighter future. Through climate-resistant farming methods, strengthening flood defences, providing disaster risk reduction training and early warning systems, such as river monitors and radios; communities can better prepare for erratic weather and lives can be saved.
