Calling all Book Worms!

Following its great success last year, a 2010 book sale will be held on Saturday 5th June at Cooke Centenary Church, Ormeau Road, Belfast from 10.00am-4.00pm


A wide selection of quality second-hand books will be available for purchase; fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, first editions, special interest books.  There will also be CDs and DVDs for sale and tea and coffee on hand when you fancy a break from browsing!

Party Against Poverty with the Ulster Gaels

The Ulster Camogie and Ladies Football Councils are inviting you to join their PARTY AGAINST POVERTY by organising an 'End of lent Event' to raise money for their chosen 'Women to Women Project' in Northern Uganda with Trócaire.

Colombia – The only risk is wanting to stay


The TV showed pictures of white palmtree lined beaches, scenic mountains and sophisticated, attractive people enjoying good food and wine – the standard tourism advertisement you would see in any country. The was followed by the strapline and voice over -    “Colombia – the only risk is wanting to stay”.

Colombia – What’s another term?

As Eduardo talked on, though we were on the 15th floor, I could hear still hear from outside the slogans   and shouts of the protesters. Bus drivers had launched a strike in the city that day,   to protest against new regulations being brought in by the Government, and were now demonstrating in the city center. Listening to Eduardo, I wondered vaguely why people were not protesting in the same way every day at the hundreds murders and endless human rights abuses that were carried out by guerilla, paramilitary, and military forces each year in Colombia.

Campesino Indigenous Women taking leadership and bringing their touch to development

Mrs. Ana Sanchez, a campesino woman from the community Tutimayu, is a married mother of five children.  Since 2006 Ana is one of the leaders of an Organisation in Bolivia called Campesino Women Bartolina Sisa Umachay (Tutimayu). In 2007 she was elected as Secretary of Finance, Central Board of the Provincial Campesino Womens.

Widow’s land rights in Uganda

In many ways it’s sad we have to hold an International Womens Day.  It’s sad that we pencil a day in the global calendar once a year to higshlight the issues of the rights of women.  It’s sad we have to highlight the many abuses, violations and inequality that women all over the world face.  It’s sad and it’s a reflection on us as people, as communities, as a country and as a world community.

Session Aid 2010

Session Aid is a unique fundraising activity which The Usual Suspects, a group of local musicians from Templeogue, Dublin have organised to support Trócaire’s Haiti Earthquake Appeal. During the weekend of 12th-14th March 2010, the group will travel from Bray to Sligo and play sessions in various locations along the way.
