Trócaire Development Review 1986

trocaire development review 1986
The 1986 Trócaire Development Review explores two key issues in development – trade and industry, and food in Africa.

In particular, topics under discussion include free trade zones in Ireland and Asia, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) trade negotiations, Ireland’s trade with developing countries, food exports in Africa, the 1985 famine crisis, and the Live Aid public awareness campaign around development issues.

In addition, several recently-published key texts on development-related topics are reviewed including reports by the World Bank, the OECD and the Department of Foreign Affairs Ireland.

The Review includes book reviews for: A Year in the Death of Africa: Politics, Bureaucracy and the Famine by Peter Gill, An African Winter by Preston King, The Challenges of Drought: Ethiopia's Decade of Struggle in Relief and Rehabilitation by the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, and The Scope for Sanctions: Economic Measures against South Africa by Richard Moorsom for the Catholic Institute for International Relations.
