Zimbabwean human rights defender and Trócaire partner, Jestina Mukoko, is in Ireland this week to thank Trócaire supporters for campaigning for her release from imprisonment.

She will speak at a public event in Dublin city centre on Thursday, 3rd December, exactly a year to the day since she was abducted by Zimbabwean authorities.

Jestina was kidnapped in Harare last December, held in captivity for 90 days and tortured. After a long legal battle the Zimbabwe Supreme Court ruled in September that all charges against her should be dropped due to her treatment at the hands of state security agents.

Jestina is head of the human rights organisation the Zimbabwe Peace Project, a long time partner of Trócaire. Her disappearance made headlines as the international spotlight focused on her situation.

The lecture will take place from 7-8pm on 3rd December at the Irish Aid Centre, O'Connell Street, Dublin city centre.  All are welcome.
