Take part in 'The Wave' this Saturday for a fair climate deal in CopenhagenPrinter-friendly version

This Saturday join Trócaire in forming a human wave that will surge through Dublin city centre to demand a fair climate change deal.

'The Wave' takes place ahead of the crucial UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen and will link up with simultaneous actions in Paris, London, Glasgow, Belfast, Brussels and Berlin.

Thousands of people are expected to form 'The Wave' as it surges from the Department of the Environment at Custom House Quay at 12 pm to 'crash' against the Department of the Taoiseach on Merrion Row.

The wave will be colourful and powerful, with people wearing blue to represent the upsurge of public opinion for a fair and safe global deal in Copenhagen.

Ciara Gaynor of Trócaire’s campaign team said: "We are asking the public to join the biggest ever climate demonstration in this country to demand a fair and safe global deal to protect all our futures."

We want the Irish Government to show leadership at Copenhagen. We want them to protect people in the poorest countries who are already dealing with the worst effects of climate change and act urgently to inspire the deal the world needs."

The UNFCCC negotiations in Copenhagen will run from the 7th to the 18th of December. World leaders are expected to join negotiators as they try to agree a successor to a new global climate deal.

"The eyes of the world will be turned to Copenhagen this December and there has never been a more important time for people to take the call for climate justice onto the streets," said Ciara.
