“As the UN climate change negotiations close today in Barcelona the leaders of rich countries are trying to dampen down expectations for the upcoming summit in Copenhagen to mask their own lack of political will for a deal” according to Niamh Garvey, Trocaire’s climate change advisor. According to Irish aid agency Trocaire world leaders must sign up to a legally binding agreement to tackle climate change in Copenhagen this December.

“The world can’t wait while politicians procrastinate like a nervous groom whose reluctant to set the-date” according to Ms Garvey. “Developing countries have been paying the price of our carbon emissions for years and are being decimated by the effects of climate change. World leaders need to face up to this damage in December and agree a fair climate change deal that will benefit rich and poor countries alike” said Ms Garvey.
