My visits to WaterfordPrinter-friendly version

March 09, 2007 3 March 2007.

I took the bus to Waterford where I was met by Eithne Brennan. She showed me around Waterford and the stunning view of the beach. We spoke at the Saturday and Sunday masses at Holy Cross Church on gender equality issues and the education sector in Malawi. 5 March 2007. Stella Maris, Tramore. Delightful. Not only because I also went to Stella Maris Secondary School in Malawi but I really had a good time at this school.

The Pamoja group had put up a presentation and it was good. Talked to 3 groups in total. The students were concerned with the age at first marriage for Malawian girls and the high HIV infection rate. Another concern was raised on issues of women's submissiveness. later we were treated to lunch, which the students had prepared and it was good! 5 March 2007. St Angela's. In the afternoon we were at this school, they have a Justice and Peace group which is currently working on the presentation. This has been painted on a big cloth which they eant to put up for display. At the school, issues around what the government is doing to address the problems in Malawi were raised and if there are chances that educated women are more likely to send their children to school.

After this school, it was back to Cork City.
