Tackling HIV

In Kenya the ‘Iron Lady’ refuses to let HIV win

Over 90% of the people living with HIV worldwide live in a developing country. A baby born in Ireland can expect to live to 80 years of age but in Zimbabwe, where 14.3% of the population is living with HIV, the average life expectancy is just 47 years.

Very poor and vulnerable populations in countries like Ethiopia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe where we work are struggling more than most, where constant food shortages make the treatment and care even more difficult.

People living in communities devastated by HIV need access to prevention, care and treatment services.

Support in action: 40,000 people in four countries have been tested and received counselling to cope with HIV. 36,750 people have received HIV awareness and prevention training across our programmes. 800 children living with HIV in Cambodia, Mozambique, Kenya and Uganda have been given a home and education.
