Age: Early Years/ Pre-School

This story sack is designed to introduce children aged 3 to 6 years to global concepts such as fairness and interdependence.  Containing a puppet, rhymes, CD and photographs of life in Kenya, the sack provides an example of how education for a just world can begin in early educational settings.

Young Children’s Engagement with Issues of Global Justice (CHRCE, St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra and Trócaire, 2010) explores current literature on the topic and details a recent field-based study, undertaken jointly by SPD and Trocaire, into how young children aged 3-6 years engage with issues of global justice. Recommendations based on the findings will be of interest to teachers, educators and those engaged in curriculum development within the Early Years sector.

This downloadable resource provides Early Years educators with activities to introduce young children to the concepts of hunger and poverty.  Through exploration of the experiences of a young girl called Domitille growing up in Rwanda, students will learn to celebrate, respect and value diversity.
